Tai Mo Shan (大帽山), located at the center of New Territories, is the highest peak (957m) in Hong Kong. On a clear day even Lantau and its adjacent islands can be seen.

In 2003, I moved to Hong Kong with a dream of traveling around the world. Later I found out, HK is an amazing "mini world". Other than skyscrapers, a few steps outside the modern city, it has steep hills, winding coastlines, outlying islands, millions of years volcanic rocks, remote beaches, unspoilt fishing villages, secret waterfalls, wild animals and ancient forests. Follow me now to explore the Hong Kong less traveled.

    • Hi, Tai Mo Shan is located at MacLehose Trail Stage 8. Hikers usually start at Shing Mun Reservoir. You can take mini bus 82 from Tsuen Wan MTR station to get there.

    • Hi, yep, just follow stage 8. From the starting point of stage 8 to end point usually takes 3-4 hours. But it takes time to get to the starting point. So please reserve 6-7 hours for the whole trip.

  1. In your opinion, what is the level of difficulty of MacLehose Trail Stage 8? I am planning a trip up in early January. Thank you!

    • Hi Sandy, in my opinion, Stage 8 is the most difficult part of MacLeHose Trail because you need to get to the highest point in HK and there is no water/food supply along the trail.
