Big Wave Bay consists of 4 beaches on the east coast of Sai Kung Peninsula, i.e. Sai Wan (West Bay), Ham Tin Wan, Tai Wan (Big Bay) and Tung Wan (East Bay).

Tai Wan (Big Bay) is a well-known place for surfing. Maclehose Trail hikers usually take a short break at Ham Tin Wan and eat beancurd jelly at the store there.

How to Get There:

Sai Kung Town Centre -> Minibus/Village Bus 29R -> Get off at Sai Wan Pavilion (last stop) ->  follow the signpost and trails to Sai Wan -> Walk north along Maclehose Trail 2 -> Ham Tin Wan -> Walk north to Tai Wan and Tung Wan

Sai Kung Town Centre -> Bus 94 -> Wong Shek Public Pier (Last stop) -> Ferry to Chek Keng -> Walk east along Maclehose Trail 2 ->  Tai Long Au -> Ham Tin Wan

  1. Just visited Ham Tin Wan over the weekend and couldn’t believe this was in Hong Kong! Also passed by Sai Wan. However, I must say I much preferred Ham Tin Wan. I did not see Tai Wan and am wondering if I had missed out on much. Do you have any pictures of Tai Wan?

    Many thanks!

    • Hi Maria, you need to keep walking north (there is a small trail in the forest) or climb north over the small hill in order to reach Tai Wan. The beach is much longer and the viewer is better. Make sure you check it out next time 🙂

I have added a map in this post and you can find out the relative position of the 4 beaches.
